By prioritizing community engagement at the forefront, I seek to co-create solutions with communities most affected by long-standing inequities and health disparities. Through ALA CoP, I plan to focus on five key research areas:
Amplify the persistently silenced voices of marginalized communities, including Indigenous, racialized/displaced, disability, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, to co-identify and co-address structural barriers to active living.
Illuminate how intersecting forms of oppression, including colonialism, racism, ableism, and age- and gender/sexuality-based discrimination, create multiple bases of marginalization that hinder individuals’ pursuit of active lifestyles.
Unlock innovative solutions by bridging the gap between marginalized communities’ nuanced lived experiences and scientific evidence-based research, fostering synergy and driving transformative change.
Catalyze sustainable impacts by building capacity within marginalized communities through community-informed initiatives, outreach efforts, and participatory collaborations.
Co-create communities of practice (CoPs) with marginalized communities through respectful and reciprocal relationships, fostering actions in Indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (I-EDIA) across research, teaching, practice, and knowledge mobilization.
